Behavioral Health Services
Inpatient Psychiatric Unit
On July 1, 1998, Saint Mary's Health Care, Pine Rest Christian
Mental Health Services, and Metropolitan Hospital formed
a Joint Operating Agreement to provide a full continuum of
psychiatric inpatient
and partial hospitalization services.
This agreement combines into one jointly managed structure,
the behavioral health care inpatient and partial hospitalization
services previously operated separately by all three organizations.
Representatives from Saint Mary's Health Care, Pine Rest,
and Metropolitan Hospital govern the Joint Operating Agreement.
Psychiatric bed licenses continue under both Saint Mary's
and Pine Rest, and are housed primarily on Pine Rest’s
main campus. The adult psychiatric beds are under the Saint
Mary's license, including those previously held by Pine Rest.
This includes adult inpatient and partial hospitalization
beds in Pine Rest’s Van Andel and Mulder Therapy Centers
at the Cutlerville campus, plus the Psychiatric Medical Unit
(PMU) beds on Saint Mary’s campus. The Children, Adolescent,
and Older Adult psychiatric beds remain under the Pine Rest
license and are also housed on Pine Rest’s main campus
in Cutlerville.
There are a total of 130 acute beds located on the Pine
Rest campus and 20 PMU beds located at the Saint Mary's campus.
This Joint Operating Agreement has been well received in
West Michigan. It allows Saint Mary's and Pine Rest to serve
the community's acute psychiatric needs, including commercial,
Medicare and Medicaid populations, and to strengthen Saint
Mary's and Pine Rest's ability to further their missions
by providing high-quality psychiatric care in a healing,
Christian environment.
